The Woodyard family and staff have provided compassionate care to help families across Central Ohio navigate one of life's most difficult moments for almost 100 years. Over generations, we've helped families plan and conduct services to remember and honor their loved ones at a reasonable cost.
In 2024, we decided it was time to continue that mission by starting Simply Cremation Ohio — an online cremation service that lets families who want simplicity arrange everything from home, at a reduced cost. Families who choose us know their loved one is cared for by a locally owned and operated team that has served this community for generations.
Our history
From one funeral director to a family legacy
Our story begins with one man's dedication — and grows into a Central Ohio institution built on value and compassionate care.
Omar Reece Woodyard becomes a licensed funeral director and establishes his first funeral home at 1346 S. High St. in Columbus — while working the night shift at Timken Roller Bearing Plant for six years to build the business.
A second location opens downtown at 255 E. State St., extending care to more Columbus families.
A third location opens at 2990 Bethel Road, and a third generation of funeral service begins as Dean A. Woodyard becomes an officer and funeral director, alongside director Gary L. Drake.
The company acquires Myers Funeral Home in Groveport (2005) and Pfeifer Funeral Home in Reynoldsburg (2023), expanding local reach across Central Ohio.
Simply Cremation Ohio launches — an online, affordable direct cremation service so families who want simplicity can arrange everything from home.
